It is no wonder that the pyjama trend has really kicked off this season, with more and more people reaching for trainers over heels, it is clear that the ‘no pain no gain’ attitude is not currently in fashion’s favour. The same goes for clothes – why would you pick something restrictive that you can barely sit down in over some loose fitting, straight leg trousers? Why indeed.

I must admit that neither the blouse nor the trousers that I am wearing today are actually pyjamas but you get the illusion they are through their cut and their (almost) matching print. I hardly ever wear spots and I guess some would think that it is quite bold to wear “double spots” but I actually think a spotty co-ord is the best way to rock this tricky print – go all in or don’t bother.

In order to make this mix-and-match co-ord day time appropriate, I have finished off the look with a ballet pump block heel – which incidentally also look like fancy slippers – a baker boy hat and a red lip for that pop of colour. This versatile look would be suitable for day time wear, a night out for girly drinks or even summer workwear.

How are you wearing the pyjama trend this season? Do you think “double spots” is too much or are you loving it?

I Love Bristol | Bulrush Restaurant Review

Bristol is a city full of really really good places to eat and I am so excited to share with you some old favourites and new discoveries while I am back in my hometown for an extended stay. We are starting this culinary tour at BULRUSH, a relatively new restaurant located in Kingsdown, which serves deliciously exotic and experimental food.

We kicked off with some Kir Royals – always – followed by some complimentary white onion soup with stout vinegar reduction, chargrilled onion dusting served with some beautifully soft bread. Free food is always such a bonus and a real sign that a restaurant wants to treat their customers and show them a good time. I would not normally order onion soup from a menu but I would certainly order this again and pay for it! It was super silky and flavoursome whilst not being too “oniony”.

When it came to ordering food, it was seriously hard to choose a starter as so many of them sounded right up my street. After much deliberation, I went for the scallop rose ceviche with watercress puree, black sesame and rock samphire. Sounds fancy doesn’t it? Well it certainly was. For my first mouthful I was not so sure that I liked it because I could taste some vinegar which, as I do more and more of these food posts you’ll get to know that I hate, but after a couple more tries, I was completely sold. The dish was fresh with lots of different textures and flavours and just look how beautifully it is presented! Anything with flower petals gets a thumbs up from me!

My main course was another taste explosive in the form of pan fried hake with sweetcorn, cavolo nero, mussels and pickled girolles (don’t worry, I was assured that they were not too “vinegary”). The hake was beautifully cooked and being not too strong, was the perfect fish to sit on a bed of such contrasting flavours and textures. The sweetcorn and grains were crunchy, the mussels were soft, the girolles were rubbery (if that is the best way to describe mushrooms!) and the hake just melted in the mouth.

Right so we all got the same dessert – chocolate delice with parsnip sponge, parsnip mousse, honeycomb pieces topped with yogurt sorbet. Hang on, did I say parsnip? Twice? That’s right and although you could taste the parsnip, thanks to the vegetable’s natural sweetness it was the perfect partner to a gooey chocolate dessert. The yogurt sorbet brought the tangy and less sweet element while the honeycomb pieces were a welcome crunch to this otherwise soft dessert.

We finished off the meal with coffees, mint tea for me and some complimentary homemade peanut fudge and blackcurrant fruit pastilles – another lovely touch!
I would highly recommend Bulrush restaurant for any special occasion, birthday or celebration you have coming up – any excuse eh? I would say that it is slightly pricey but it is always nice to treat yourself once in a while and the food is so worth it!

Forgotten Favourites: Suede Bomber Jacket

Suede bomber – vintage (SIMILAR), Turtleneck – H&M (SIMILAR), Jeans – MONKI, Loafers – old NEW LOOK (SIMILAR)
Location: Redland, Bristol

Having lived abroad in Paris and Barcelona for the past three years, of course there were clothes, although beautiful, that did not make the cut to come with me and my two suitcases. Now I am back in Bristol for an extended stay and have been reunited with my overflowing wardrobe and some forgotten favourites.

So I thought it would be fun to dust off some of these items and do a little series of outfit posts featuring my forgotten favourites. Of course many of these items will no longer be available or are vintage and although some of you may find this frustrating, I hope that you will find some inspiration and I will always try to link some similar items if possible.

Right so now that admin is out of the way, we can all start admiring this amazing suede bomber jacket. It is no secret that both suede and bomber jackets are big news this season so I am pretty chuffed that I already have both trends covered with this beaut. I bought this bomber a couple of years ago in the vintage shop where I used to work in Paris and what made me fall in love with it is its unusual pink tint to the brown suede. It is the perfect jacket for this strange British summer weather we are having and here I have let it do all the talking by just wearing it over a simple black turtleneck and skinny jeans. Finished off with these old New Look loafers, which are another forgotten favourite and are also bang on trend. Huns, it always pays off to hoard clothes.

I urge you all to delve in the depths of your wardrobes to find your forgotten favourites that may be just what you are looking for right now. Happy rummaging!

Bon fouillis!

Well I must admit that I felt pretty sassy in this sixties get-up on Saturday of Glastonbury. Everyone knows that when it comes to festival dressing, sparkles and denim are absolute essentials so I decided to throw them together for what is definitely my favourite outfit of the weekend.
If you read Monday’s ULTIMATE NINETIES GLASTONBURY OUTFIT POST, you will notice two trends. Firstly, I took serious inspiration from two of my favourite fashion eras – nineties and now sixties – and secondly, the key pieces in both outfits came from Primark. I have not shopped in Primark for a long time but when I arrived back from Barcelona with nada to wear to Glastonbury I took a trip to the queen of bargains and picked up a few things including this amazing low cut sparkly body. I was drawn to it like a moth to a flame and I knew instantly that it would be the perfect amount of understated sass that I was looking for. Paired with a button down denim mini, some statement sunglasses and of course a choker I was ready to tackle the mud in style.
Also, kudos to me for remembering to French plait my hair the night before to ensure I had the perfect retro ‘do’ to match my outfit. Thank you, thank you very much.
P.S. Please excuse and ignore the England flags in the background. This was not deliberate and I am very upset with England right now because of Brexit. Europe, I love you X
