Photography: Structures in Paris, Barcelona And Berlin

Back in Paris in the spring of 2015, I started a 36 exposure black and white film with the intention of photographing structures, both natural and man-made. Since then, I have lived in Barcelona, revisited Paris and travelled to one of my favourite European cities – Berlin – and my SLR came with me.

PARIS

Paris is known for its beautifully classic, sand-coloured, Haussmann buildings but there certainly is more to the city’s architecture than that. These photos were taken along the gritty, more industrial Canal Saint Martin where the different lines and grids were beautiful to photograph. As I started this film not long before I moved, unfortunately I was unable to fully explore this unusual way of photographing the white city.

BARCELONA

From Paris-esque Metro signs to interesting trees and the mix of industrial and picturesque architecture, I could not help but photograph such a variety of subjects in Barcelona. While shooting this film, I spent the most time in Barcelona, which was both an advantage and a disadvantage. Perhaps after a while, some things that would have photographed so well, I took for granted although the more I explored, the more photographs I could take. Watch this space for my colour film photos of Barcelona coming soon.

Berlin is a very urban city with street art on every corner and vast open spaces of both development and nothingness. What particularly struck me was how many organic communities there were around the city who had created camps or makeshift shelters. I feel that I cannot comment further on this because I do not know about these communities but it certainly was intriguing to photograph.

I hope you had enjoyed seeing a few snapshots from my latest film. This follows on from my film PHOTOGRAPHING PEOPLE IN PARIS, which I shared on the blog a year ago yesterday. Yep, I must take more photos, more quickly – duly noted!

Hello! It is currently early Sunday evening (I know you’re reading this on Monday morning but bear with me), it’s pissing it down with rain, my mum is cooking lasagne for dinner and my computer is running about as fast as a tortoise doing backstroke. I have seem to got myself into this routine of taking outfit photos at the weekend and spending Sunday evening editing photos and writing Monday’s blog post rather than taking time to relax, which let’s face it, is what Sundays are for. Don’t get me wrong – I absolutely love blogging but I definitely need to get on top of my content and get ahead of myself. Hopefully this can happen now that I already have quite a few looks shot and in the bank.

So today’s look is one that I styled for my recent ASOS HAUL AND TRY ON VIDEO and I liked it so much that I had to share it on here too. Dusty pink has been everywhere this season and I think it going to be the perfect transitional colour going into winter. I hardly own anything pink therefore I was not sure if this blouse would suit me but I think it does! Of course, it goes without saying that I absolutely love the ruffles and pussy bow detailing and although these already feature heavily in my blouse collection, it is a welcome addition thanks to the dusty pink colour.

I decided to “toughen up” the blouse by wearing my boyish, straight washed black jeans and chunky black chelsea boots. I finished the look with a much needed nod to the sixties with this floppy baker boy hat. This is the perfect way of wearing a rather “fussy” blouse in a totally unfussy way.

How do you keep on top of your blogging schedule? How would you style this beautiful blouse?

Salut!

Following part one of my collaboration with ZAFUL on Monday where I styled that amazing WHITE BLOUSE WITH BELL SLEEVES, today I am back with part two featuring two pieces from this wonderful website. As I said in my previous post, it was so hard to choose just three pieces from their enormous and varied collection and since publishing Monday’s post, I have had friends telling me how much they also love it! (One friend stated “I want it all.”)
Ok so let’s talk about these amazing WIDE LEG ORANGE CULOTTES! I do not normally wear orange and it is certainly a colour that I used to hate. However, recently I have been loving it more and more, especially this “burnt” orange shade. These trousers are a lovely shape and thanks to their light material, they are just perfect for the high temperatures that we have been having in the UK this week.
I instantly knew that I would pair these loose, dramatic culottes with a tight body for contrast and today I went for my simple, black V-neck one. I think a strappy, backless number would look super sassy with the culottes – perhaps as an evening holiday look (but for that I can only dream!). To finish off the look, I added this monster METAL CIRCLE CHOKER also by ZAFUL. It is such a statement piece and way wider than any of the chokers that I already own but I bloody love it.
Have you been wearing any colours recently that you previously hated? How would you style these orange culottes? I do actually have a completely different look featuring these culottes in the pipeline so look out for that!

I was recently contacted by the lovely people at ZAFUL who invited me to take a look at their online boutique and pick some pieces from the fantastically varied collection. From cute boho dresses and minimal shirts to quirky swimwear and a denim section to die for, there really is something for everyone and I seriously struggled to choose just a few items. I would definitely recommend having a look on ZAFUL, especially (but not exclusively) if you are on a budget.
Of course I could not resist this beautiful WHITE BLOUSE WITH BELL SLEEVES and it went straight in my basket. I am obsessed with romantic blouses, they are so versatile and you have already seen them many times on this blog styled under dungarees and paired with jeans or Levi’s denim shorts.
Today I am trying a juxtaposition of styles by layering this dream seventies style blouse underneath my super nineties cave woman slip dress and I absolutely love the result. I think it works particularly well because the dress is covering the plain body section of the blouse, leaving the amazing layered pleated bell sleeves to do all the talking. I finished off the look simply with my Converse and Ray Ban sunglasses for a casual Saturday in the sun.
What unusual combinations have you been rocking recently?

Make sure you check back later this week for the second outfit from my collaboration with ZAFUL.
