Hello from Montreal!

I am writing this post surrounded by unpacked clothes strewn across our Airbnb room in the beautiful Outremont area of Montreal. Among the chaos, I pinpointed my Zara shirt dress which has undoubtedly been my best summer purchase, originally as an ALTERNATIVE SUMMER WEDDING outfit back in June but since then, I have been reaching for it again and again. Here in Montreal the weather is looking mighty fine for the next few days so I just had to get a final bit of wear out of the ultimate summer dress.

With a dress this minimal, it is all about accessorising and I kept things casual with a cool fishnet socks and Vans combo for a morning of exploring my new city. Although my alliance will always lie with my beloved Converse, I have recently been loving these Old Skool Vans as a more comfy and minimal alternative. I finished off the look with a bandana necktie and these awesomely bold sunglasses by VIA.

As I am now based in Montreal I would like to ask you guys a question. Normally I publish blog posts in the morning UK time but that is my middle of the night now. So the question I would like to ask is what time of day do you do most of your blog reading? Morning, lunchtime or evening? Any reply would be much appreciated (and don’t forget to include where you live, to help me work out a blog schedule for cross-time zone audiences!) <3

Salut de Montréal!

J’écris ce poste avec des vêtements autour de moi dans ma chambre Airbnb qui se situe dans le beau quartier d’Outremont à Montréal. Au milieu du chaos, j’ai réussi à trouver ma chemise-robe de Zara qui est sans doute la meilleur pièce que j’ai acheté cet été. Au début je l’ai acheté pour une tenue ALTERNATIVE POUR UN MARIAGE D’ETE en juin mais je la mets plein fois depuis ce moment. Ici à Montréal il fait super beau cette semaine alors il fallait mettre la robe suprême d’été pour les derniers jours de cette saison.

Vu que la robe est minimaliste, il faut mettre des accessoires et aujourd’hui j’ai mis une tenue décontractée avec une combinaison de baskets Vans et chaussures résilles pour une matinée d’exploration de ma nouvelle ville. Même si j’ai toujours une alliance avec mes Converses adorés, récemment j’aime bien ces baskets Vans comme un alternatif plus confortable et minimaliste. J’ai fini le look avec un bandana autour du cou et des lunettes de soleil super trapues.

Maintenant je veux bien vous demander une petite question. Normalement je publie des postes le matin (heure locale d’Angleterre) mais vue que je suis à Montréal, ce serait au milieu de ma nuit! Alors, je vous demande c’est quand que vous lisez des blogs? C’est le matin, pendant la pause-déj ou le soir? Merci en avance de m’avoir répondu (et n’oubliez pas d’écrire où vous habitez pour que je puisse faire un planning de blog!) <3

YouTube: What I’m Packing For Canada

Hello huns,

I apologise profusely that things have been a bit quite on the blog this week. It has been rather hectic because ya know, I am moving to Canada today! That’s right – as this post goes live, I am on my way to Gatwick to catch my flight to Montreal. Of course I have been living abroad in Europe for the past few years but moving to Canada definitely feels like a bigger step! I am feeling all sorts of emotions right now from excitement, hope and pride to sadness, fear and everything else in between.

So I thought it was fitting to do a video to mark this special day, bringing together my two passions – fashion and travel – and show you what I am packing for Canada. I can tell you that it has been pretty bloody hard – especially as a fashion blogger – to pack my rather sizeable wardrobe down into just two suitcases. But I have managed it and I always have the excuse to buy even more clothes over in Montreal.

How To Wear Florals For Autumn

It is that time of year when I feel fed up of summer clothes, I am pining for a wardrobe refresh and the weather is so hit and miss that I just struggle getting dressed in the morning. Therefore, I am already starting to think about the new season, which trends I am going to buy into and how to style existing pieces for this transitional period.

This dress recently featured in an ASOS HAUL VIDEO and when styling it up, it made me think about how it is possible to wear florals in autumn. Of course, we all inevitably associate floral print with summer – with cute short sleeve blouse, wedding appropriate tea dress and bold embroidery on jeans – and although traditionally florals are very girly, I think it is possible to incorporate this print into our minimal/grunge/boyish wardrobes.

As this dress is not head to toe covered in florals and is dominated by a black background, it is easy to avoid a super feminine look. Today I have styled it simply with a boxy, tailored suede shirt/jacket whose shape is a nice contrast to the floaty shape of this long-sleeved tea dress and whose pastel colour goes well with the pink flowers. Chunky boots were a must for this outfit so I chose my black chelsea boots to keep the tough, grunge vibe. This dress is perfect for AW16 because grunge is definitely back and also it has that lovely ruffle detailing on the sleeves which is still going to be massive this season.

C’est la période quand j’en ai marre des vêtements d’été, je veux changer mon placard et le temps est si bizarre que je n’arrive pas à m’habiller le matin! Donc, j’ai déjà commencé à penser de la nouvelle saison, de quelles tendance je suivrai et comment styler des pièces que j’ai pour cette période.

Vous avez vu cette robe dans ma VIDEO ASOS HAUL et en la mettant, je me suis dit qu’il est possible de porter du motif fleuri pendant l’automne. C’est sûr qu’on associe du motif fleuri avec l’été – avec des petits chemisiers mignons, des robes de mariage et de la broderie sur du jean – et même si des fleurs sont super féminins, je pense qu’il est possible de porter ce motif avec un style minimaliste/grunge/boyish.

Vu que cette robe n’est pas couverte de fleurs et a un fond noir, il est facile d’éviter une tenue très féminine. Aujourd’hui, je mets une chemise/veste en daim ajustée par dessus pour avoir un bon contraste de formes et un lien avec la couleur pastel des fleurs roses. J’ai su qu’il fallait mettre des bottines trapues du coup j’ai choisi mes bottines Chelsea noires pour garder la vibe dur et grunge. Cette robe est parfaite pour automne/hiver 2016 parce que le grunge est revenu et elle a des détails de ruches qui continuent d’être une super tendance cette saison.

Rock N Roll Culottes

You guys have already seen these amazing ORANGE CULOTTES on this blog and over on my INSTAGRAM where they were very well received, so I wanted to show you another way to style them. I always thought that culottes required minimal and/or sportwear styling but today I am breaking all the rules and wearing them rock n roll style.

I have an on-off relationship with band/slogan/novelty tees, sometimes thinking they are too 2005, but right now I am loving them. This particular one is very dear to me as it celebrates The Libertines reunion at Reading Festival 2010 where I saw this special band for the first and only time. I think the red logo on the t-shirt goes perfectly with the orange of the culottes and the whole thing looks pretty damn good next to this VW campervan of dreams. Of course no rock n roll look would be complete without Converse and a leather jacket and I’ve finished off the look with this perfect fedora, which I really must wear more.

How would you style these culottes?

Vous avez déjà vu cette belle JUPE-CULOTTE ORANGE sur ce blog et sur mon INSTAGRAM – où vous l’avez trop aimé – donc, je voulais vous montrer une autre façon de la porter. Normalement, je pense qu’il faut porter la jupe-culotte dans un style minimaliste et/ou sportswear mais aujourd’hui je casse tous les règles en la mettant en style rock n roll.

Concernant des t-shirts rock/slogan/fantaisie, je les aime et je ne les aime pas – des fois ils me rappelent trop de l’année 2005 mais maintenant je les kiffe. En particulier, j’aime bien ce t-shirt de The Libertines parce qu’il célèbre sa réunion en 2010 à Reading Festival où j’ai regardé ce groupe génial pour la première et seule fois. Pour moi, le logo rouge va super bien avec la couleur orange de la jupe-culotte et l’ensemble est parfait à côté de ce camping-car de mes rêves. On ne peut pas avoir un look rock n roll sans des Converses ou un perfecto et j’ai fini la tenue avec ce chapeau feutre que je ne mets pas assez.
