I have a feeling that today’s post might involve a bit of rambling, so I apologise for that in advance. It’s that in between time of year where the season is changing yet I’m still shopping around for my key pieces for autumn/winter and wondering what the rest of the year will bring. On top of the fashion uncertainty (biggest world problem, I know), I am currently going through some big personal life changes, which always tend to happen at this time of year too. For some reason, that “back to school” mindset in September never really leaves you – even five(!) years after graduating – and it always seems like a good time to start a fresh. Except this year it seems even harder – having relocated from Montreal two weeks ago, I am currently hunting for jobs in London whilst living at home in Bristol. However, it’s a bit difficult to know when to take the plunge to actually move there, especially when there are three of you to consider (nope, I’m not pregnant, I’m talking about our cat ha!). I’m sure everything will work itself out but I always find my productivity levels dip during uncertain times because I find it so much easier to work when I’m settled. So once again, I’m asking you to please bear with me.

Ok let’s talk about this outfit shall we?! It is quite reflective of that in between time of year I was talking about – I’m starting to think about AW17 trends yet the legs are still out, which was possible when we shot these back in Montreal at the beginning of September. Red continues to be a big colour for the coming season and if you follow me on Instagram you will see that I am a big fan. I picked up this adorable red sixties pinafore dress in an excessively massive spree I made when I left the vintage shop I worked in in Montreal. It is just the perfect length and shape, hugging in at my waist and skimming out over my hips. I paired it with this burnt orange turtleneck, which is such a beautiful colour and just what you need for nailing the seventies trend that’s come back around this season (yay!).

I finished off the look with some rather “school girl” accessories. After taking a little break from each other during summer, I am reunited with my Coach Saddle Bag and absolutely loving it. It goes really well with the burnt orange turtleneck yet clashes against the bright red pinafore and I think it works really well. I am also thrilled to be wearing my trusty Dr Martens shoes again, which are an absolute winter wardrobe staple that adds that toughness to any outfit. Finally, no look would be complete without a vintage fisherman cap. This one is from my recent vintage haul and yes it’s almost identical to my other one except it’s black! Oh I do love this time of year when leather shoes, turtlenecks and hats can come back out from the depths of our wardrobes!

Finally, can we just talk about this yellow school bus backdrop?! Yes, we had to sneak onto to some school property to take these photos but I just simply could not leave Montreal without shooting by such an iconic symbol of North American life. I absolutely love the injection of colour and how it clashes oh so well with the reds and oranges of the outfit. I hope you have enjoyed this little rambling post. I felt so stuck on what to write, which is the effect that in between time of year can have but it feels good to have just let my fingers type. Right I must get back to job hunting now – wish me luck! X
